Q: I have missed the scheduled registration sign up day & the season has not started yet, can I still sign up?
Yes, you may register late on the mandatory assessment day. We will be accepting LATE REGISTRATION on Assessment Day for all divisions, your child will be placed at the end of the wait list. It will be your responsibility to find out the time and location for the specific age division assessment. All assessment are held on the same day but at different times.
Since there are no assessments (tryouts) for the 6ers division (5-6 year old), you will need to do a late registration on Assessment Day. Download & fill out the Registration Form & follow the instruction on the Registration Form page for late registration. Please keep in mind that your child will be placed on the wait list.
Q: What if I can’t make the mandatory assessment?
No shows will be placed at the end of the wait list. There will be NO refunds after assessments are completed. Uniforms are ordered soon after the mandatory assessments (tryouts). There is an added cost to the league when uniforms are special ordered for someone on the wait list. If you have any questions, please contact the specific Division Director.
Q: My family & I will be out of town or unable to be present on registration day, can a friend sign up my child in my place?
Yes, a friend or other family members may register for your son/daughter on registration day. However, the legal custodian (parent or guardian) must sign the waiver on the registration form & present a copy of your child’s birth certificate. *Only 1 call back ticket per family will be given out on registration day. Unfortunately for the Summer & Winter Season we do not accept any pre-registration or mail in registration. We do accept late registrations on the day of the assessments, but your child will be placed on the wait list.
Q: Can I MAIL my registration form in?
Unfortunately no we do not accept mailed in registration form. If you will be out of town on registration day, please refer to the question above.
Q: Can I EMAIL my registration form or other personal information?
We do not accept any emailed registration form. KAC Basketball will not be held responsible for any cyber theft of your personal information transmitted via email, text or any other form of electronic communication. OUR WEBSITE IS NOT A SECURED WEBSITE! Our coaches have been informed but,If a coach or division director ask you to send any type of personal information please ask to make an arrange so you can meet them somewhere to exchange your information.
Q: The scheduled assessment date is a week away, could I sign up my child at the try outs?
Yes. you may register your child on assessment day. It will be your responsibility to find out the time and location for the specific age division assessment. Please note that your child will be placed on the wait list, if you register on assessment day.
Q: Can I put in a request for my child to be on a certain coaches team?
Special requests will not be honored. KAC works hard to screen its coaches. Youth learn and benefit from the diversity of our experienced coaches. KAC Basketball is an active member of the Positive Coaching Alliance organization, and many of our coaches have completed training put on by the PCA.
Q: I have 2 siblings in the same division, could I make a request to be placed on the same team?
Yes. As part of our draft process, siblings in the same division are placed on the same team. Please indicate this on the registration and tryout forms.
Q: My child & her/his friend car pool could I make a request to be placed on the same team?
Special requests are not honored. However, we are sensitive to the demands practices have on families. You may indicate this request on the tryout form but there is NO guarantee that the request will be honored.
Q: My child played in only 1 quarter at yesterdays game, how can he/she get more playing time?
League rules requires that every player play in a minimum of 2 full quarters, 6ers-Juniors & 1 1/2 (one & a half) quarters for the Seniors & Masters division. If your child has played in only one quarter please notify your coach, it may have been a mistake on his part. If no action is taken in the next game notify the division coordinator.
Q: When does the Summer season start & end?
Registration notices for the Summer season are emailed out during the beginning of March. The registration notices are also posted on our website usually the same week they are emailed out. Tentatively practices start by the end of May. Games tentatively begin on or around the beginning of June and will run through early August. Please check the our website as the season approaches for more information.
Q: When does the Winter season start & end?
Registration notices for the Winter season are emailed out during the beginning of August. The registration notices are also posted on our website usually the same week they are emailed out. Tentatively practices start at the end of October. Games tentatively begin on or around the beginning of November and will run through mid-December. Please check our website as the season approaches for more information.
Q: My son/daughter played in the last season, why didn’t I get a registration notice in the mail for the next season?
Registration notices are emailed to anyone who signed up on our KAC Registration Notice email sign up database. We try our best, but mistakes happen and we apologize. Sometimes families change their email address and we are not aware of their new address.
If you do not wish to be place in our Email List database, please bookmark our website & check back at the beginning of March for the Summer notice, the beginning of August for the Winter notice & the beginning of December/January for the Spring Girls notice.
Q: No one has called me regarding my son/daughter placement on a team, what should I do?
You should be getting a call from your son/daughters coach within one or two weeks from the coaches meeting. Dates of the coaches meeting are posted on the homepage under “Important Dates”. A coach may be on a business trip and will call as soon as he returns. Sometimes coaches try to secure their practice schedule and site before calling their assigned players. Please remember that all of our coaches are volunteers and sacrifice their time and knowledge of the game for your children.
Q: My son/daughter is playing in multiple sports, can he/she still play in KAC Basketball League?
We understand that your child(ren) may play in multiple sports, soccer, baseball, football as well as school athletics, and may conflict with your KAC coaches practice days. We ask that the parents and players make a comment to attend at least one practice a week. We also value academics and try to keep practices to 90 minutes.
Q: My son/daughter is considered a “late born” and has not played in a basketball league before?
The ages for all KAC seasons are based on a calendar year, age as of December 31. Division groups are broken down by age group, not by height or skill level.
Q: How many seasons does KAC have?
KAC has 3 seasons, Summer & Winter Coed & Girls Spring Season.
-Summer Season, will tentatively run from about June through August.
-Winter season , will tentatively run from about November through Mid December.
The KAC Girls Basketball season is Spring only.
Spring season, will tentatively run from about March through May. The Girls Spring season may overlap 1-2 weeks into the start of the Summer season.
Q: What are the typical practice days?
All of our coaches are volunteers and practice days depend on each Coach’s schedule. When you receive a call from your son/daughters coach he will notify you of the practice times & location.
Q: How many practices are allowed per week?
KAC allows each coach no more than 2 practices a week. Again, practice days will depend on the coaches schedule. A few Coaches for the older (Masters) divisions may not have practices and may meet only at the game.
Q: How many game days for each season?
A normal season will have tentatively 10 scheduled games. Game days will vary in each division, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Time and days depend upon the availability of gym times. Winter is a shorter season and may have only 9 scheduled games.
Q: What gyms are the games played at?
Games will be tentatively held at Palolo Recreation Center, Kilauea District Park, Kaimuki Community Park, Holy Nativity Church and Kalani High School gyms. Other gyms may be utilized depending on the availability of mentioned gyms above. Games will be held tentatively on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.
Q: The majority of the games are played on what day and estimated time? (Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday)
As far as what specific range of times the game are played, it varies from season to season and at this time it is to early to announce. It will depend on the number gyms we can acquire and at what time they will be available for our games. We are still in the process of negotiating available time for each division. We will have a better idea of game times, dates & gyms by our coaches meeting.
Q: My child was on the wait list and did not get on a team, when can I expect a refund?
All refunds are issued after the current season assessment date.
